Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation Overview

Jesus told us in Luke 4: 18: “The spirit of the Lord is upon me; therefore He has anointed me. He has sent me to bring glad tidings to the poor, to proclaim liberty to captives, Recovery of sight to the blind and release to prisoners…Today this scripture is fulfilled in your midst.”

Jesus wants us to ANNOUNCE, TELL, ALERT the people so that all will know he is among us by how the glad tidings, the good news is reaching the poor. Are those held captive by unjust public policy and practices noticed, attended to?  How are those addicted to violence, greed, lust, distain for “the other, someone not like them” recovering their sight, forgiving themselves and their neighbor, offering release to those they hold captive?  These are big questions—too big to tackle alone.

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation (JPIC) section of our SND Chardon website. Together we will “hunger and thirst for justice.”  Together we will turn justice into a verb—we will do it, be it, and bring it. In addition to working toward some definitive outcome—the right of everyone to have access to water—or working toward some definitive event—a parish sponsored program that promotes peace with justice, or a celebration or achievement about justice– together we can proclaim by words, prayers and actions that the good news of the gospel is consequential with life.

In addition to regular advocacy alerts, background information on current issues and articles that further explain our mission, the JPIC section includes links to the our corporate stance on water, Water for Life, and our corporate stance on Human Trafficking. A religious community that takes a corporate stance on a particular issue considers it so critical that the entire community works to raise awareness about the issue and then calls for action.
